After my second hospital birth, I always knew I wanted a home birth. He came fast and furious 10 minutes after arriving at the hospital. I knew then, I could do it! So when I got pregnant with my third, I just knew! Unfortunately, I live in a state where midwives are not legally able to attend home births so I made the decision to have a wild pregnancy and free birth. Pregnancy was a breeze and I worked almost until I delivered. I had one ultrasound done at my chiropractors office just to have the memories. But I knew my body was doing what it was designed to do. A few days before my “due date” I finally got around to putting baby stuff together and washing clothes, talk about last minute nesting! I started having regular contractions around 11 PM and told my mom, who was my support person, to head over I thought it was the real deal. I spent the next few hours on my birthing ball, using a comb in my hands through the tough contractions. Around 3 AM I thought I couldn’t do it anymore, but I pushed through. I think I was going through transition at the time. I was on all fours and barely had to push and my sweet wild girl came earthside at 3:33 AM. I used tinctures to help with the bleeding and we quickly settled into our new family.
